The Hutt Valley is where Classic Cleaners does most of its Wellington-region work.
Lower Hutt is a big area with very different housing from one end to the other. There's the flat valley floor around the city centre, Waterloo and Epuni. There are the post-war state housing suburbs of Naenae and Taitā. Then there are the bush-clad western hills: Maungaraki, Normandale, Belmont and Harbour View. A house on the valley floor and a house up in the bush need different jobs.
On the valley floor
The flat suburbs get damp air, fog and frost in winter. Walls on the south side and fences in the shade stay wet for days. Many of the homes were built from the 1940s to the 60s, with weatherboard or brick walls and iron or tile roofs.
- Mould and algae on painted timber. We soft wash at low pressure so old paint stays put.
- Moss on roofs. Lots of homeowners here choose a roof treatment that keeps working for months, or a roof wash before painting.
- Concrete. Driveways, paths and patios go green, and we water blast them.
In Naenae and Taitā, some older state houses still have original cladding or soffits that could be asbestos-cement. These are never water blasted.
Up in the western hills
Homes in Maungaraki, Normandale and Belmont sit among bush and pine. Gutters fill with leaves and needles, roofs stay damp under the trees, and decks and steps get slippery. We clear gutters, wash decks and steps, and clean fences.
Commercial
The Lower Hutt city centre, Seaview and Gracefield have offices, shops, warehouses and industrial buildings. We do commercial building washes.
Lower Hutt FAQ
Should I treat or wash my roof? Treat it if you just want the moss gone over time. Wash it if you're painting soon or want it clean straight away.
