Stokes Valley is a narrow side valley off the main Hutt Valley, with steep bush-covered hills on both sides. Most of the houses date from the 1950s to the 70s, and many sit on sloping sections with steps up to the front door. The bush is beautiful, but it means less winter sun and more moisture than most of the Hutt.
We work in Stokes Valley, Taitā and Manor Park seven days a week.
Shady sections, green houses
In a narrow valley, a lot of houses spend most of winter in shade. That shows up as:
- algae and mould on walls, window frames and soffits
- black streaks where gutters have overflowed down the cladding
- moss on roofs and in valleys
- slippery steps, paths and decks
We soft wash walls and eaves to kill the growth, clear gutters so they stop overflowing, and either treat or wash the roof. Concrete steps get a water blast, and timber decks get a wash before they become a hazard.
Steep sections
Steep sites take a bit more planning. We need to get water, hoses and gear around the house safely.
Older homes
Plenty of homes here have original weatherboards painted many times, and some older homes may have asbestos-cement cladding or soffits. If paint is already flaking, we'll tell you before we start.
Stokes Valley FAQ
Is a soft wash enough for really green walls? Usually, yes. The cleaning solution kills the growth, and some staining keeps fading over the following days as it breaks down.
How long will the clean last in a shady spot? Shaded walls go green sooner than sunny ones. Most people here wash every year or so.
Can you clean the stairs up to my house? Yes. Concrete steps get a water blast, and timber steps get a gentler wash.
