Part of our house wash & exterior services in Wellington.
Wellington gutters fill up in ways Auckland ones don't. The wind strips leaves off trees streets away and drops them on your roof. Moss off the roof washes down into the spouting. And when it rains sideways, a blocked gutter sends water straight onto the walls and into places it shouldn't be.
Getting them cleared before winter saves a lot of grief.
What's included
- Hand clearing of leaves, moss, sticks and sludge, bagged and taken away
- Downpipes checked and unblocked, taken apart if we need to
- A flush through the whole system to make sure it drains
- A heads-up about anything loose, cracked or sagging

Why Wellington gutters block
Wind-blown leaves. Even without your own trees, the wind brings them in. Southerlies are the worst for it.
Moss off the roof. Moss and lichen grow well on damp Wellington roofs. Bits break off and collect in the gutter, and the gutter starts to grow its own.
Bush sections. A lot of Wellington homes sit next to bush or reserves. Lovely to look at, not so good for the spouting.
Steep sections. Water that overflows on a hill tends to run where you don't want it, into retaining walls, under decks and along the foundations.

- slope, steps and getting onto the roof
Want a price? It's free and there's no obligation.
Areas we cover

When to book
- Autumn, after the leaves have dropped and before winter rain. This is the one not to skip.
- Spring, to clear out what winter brought down.
- After a big southerly or a storm, if you see water spilling over.
If the roof is mossy, a roof treatment will cut down what ends up in the gutters. If it's bad, a roof clean gets it off now.
Do the roof and walls at the same time
Book the gutters with a house wash and the walls stay clean for longer, because overflowing spouting is a common cause of streaks down the cladding.
Gutter cleaning questions
How often should gutters be cleaned in Wellington?
Twice a year is a good rule, usually autumn and spring. Wellington's wind blows leaves and rubbish into gutters even if there are no trees on your section, and moss washing off the roof adds to it. It's worth getting them checked after a big southerly too.
Why do my gutters overflow in heavy rain?
Usually there's a blocked downpipe or a layer of leaves and silt sitting in the gutter. In a proper Wellington downpour that water has nowhere to go, so it spills over, runs down the walls and can soak into fascias and framing. Clearing the gutters and flushing the downpipes sorts most of it.
What do you do in a gutter clean?
We look over the gutters, clear out all the leaves and muck, and clean the downpipes, taking them apart if they're blocked. If there's something a clean won't fix, like a broken bracket or a leaking joint, we'll tell you.
How long does it take?
Up to about 3 hours for most homes. Steep sections and multi-level houses, which Wellington has plenty of, take longer to set up safely.
How much does gutter cleaning cost in Wellington?
It depends on the size of the house, how many levels, how much guttering and how hard it is to get to. Give us your address and we'll quote it.
