Blocked gutters don't look like much from the ground. Then a big downpour comes through, the water goes over the edge instead of down the pipe, and you end up with stained walls, a soggy garden bed and damp creeping into the framing.
Auckland gets plenty of rain and plenty of trees, so gutters fill up faster than most people think.
What a gutter clean includes
- A look first. We check the gutters and downpipes so we know where the trouble is.
- Hand clear. Leaves, twigs, moss and the black sludge at the bottom all come out by hand. We bag it and take it away.
- Downpipes. We check each downpipe and clear any blockage, taking it apart if we have to.
- Flush and test. We run water through the whole system to make sure it drains properly.
- Tell you what we found. If anything needs fixing, we'll let you know.
Signs your gutters are blocked
- Water spilling over the edge when it rains, rather than going down the pipe
- Dark streaks or stains down the walls under the spouting
- Plants or grass growing out of the gutter
- Puddles or washed-out soil along the base of the house
- Gutters sagging or pulling away from the fascia
- Damp patches on the ceiling near the outside walls

How often Auckland gutters need clearing
For most homes, twice a year: once after the leaves have come down in autumn and once in spring. Bump that up if you have:
- big trees overhanging the roof
- a mossy roof, because the moss washes into the gutters
- had a lot of wild weather

Gutter cleaning questions
How often should gutters be cleaned in Auckland?
At least twice a year for most homes, usually in spring and autumn. Auckland's warm, damp weather means moss and sludge build up even without trees, and big trees like pōhutukawa, oaks or palms fill gutters faster. Book in sooner if water spills over the edge in heavy rain.
What's included in a gutter clean?
We check the gutters first, then clear out the leaves, twigs and sludge. The downpipes get cleaned, and taken apart if they're blocked, then we flush water through to make sure it all drains.
How long does gutter cleaning take?
Usually 1 to 3 hours. It depends on the size of the house, how many gutters there are and how much has built up in them.
Do I need to be home for a gutter clean?
No, as long as we can get to the gutters and downpipes. If there's anything we should know, like a dog in the back yard or a dodgy bit of spouting, just tell us beforehand.
How much does gutter cleaning cost in Auckland?

Can't I just clean my gutters myself?
You can on a low single-storey house with a good ladder, but it's slow work and falls from ladders are a common way people get hurt. Two-storey homes and steep roofs are best left to someone with the right gear. We also flush and test the downpipes, which most DIY jobs skip.
