House Washing in Wainuiomata

House washing, roofs, gutters and driveways in Wainuiomata.

Over the hill from Lower Hutt, Wainuiomata has its own valley and its own weather. It grew quickly as a family suburb in the 1950s and 60s, so much of the housing is weatherboard and brick from that time, with newer homes on the edges. Bush-covered hills surround the valley, and it gets more than its share of rain and damp.

Typical Wainuiomata jobs

Mould on weatherboards. The damp, enclosed valley is ideal for algae and mould, particularly on walls facing away from the sun. We soft wash them at low pressure. A water blaster on 60-year-old paint usually causes more trouble than it solves.

Moss on iron roofs. Plenty of homes here still have their original corrugated iron roof, often with a few coats of paint on it. Moss and lichen hold moisture against the iron. A moss treatment kills it gradually, while a roof wash cleans it in one go and is the right choice before repainting.

Overflowing gutters. The bush edge means leaves, and heavy rain means gutters overflow as soon as they're partly blocked. We clear them and check the downpipes.

Driveways and paths. Shady concrete grows a green film that's slippery in the wet. Water blasting takes it back to bare concrete. We also wash fences and decks.

Older cladding

Some homes built in the 50s and 60s have asbestos-cement sheet cladding, soffits or sheds. It should never be water blasted or scrubbed hard.

Wainuiomata FAQ

My iron roof is painted. Will a wash take the paint off? We clean painted iron at low pressure. Paint that's already chalky or peeling may come off in places, and we'll tell you before we start if we think it will.
