Devonport has water on most sides and some of the oldest houses on the North Shore. There are Victorian and Edwardian villas around the village, bungalows towards Cheltenham, and big homes looking across the harbour from Stanley Point. Many streets fall within heritage areas, so the houses get looked after, and owners want that work done carefully.
We're on the North Shore seven days a week, 7am to 7pm.
Salt, wind and old timber
Devonport catches wind and salt from the harbour and the Gulf. On an old timber house, that shows up as chalky paint, salt crust on windows and rusting nail heads. Under the verandah and eaves, the rain never rinses anything off, so grime and cobwebs build up.
We soft wash old houses with a cleaning solution and low pressure. No water blaster goes near the weatherboards, sash windows or decorative trim. Old paint on these houses is often many layers thick, some of it lead-based, and blasting it is asking for trouble.
What we do around Devonport
- Full house washes, including verandahs, bay windows and fretwork
- Iron roofs with lichen, and roof treatment for the moss on the shady side
- Gutters, which fill quickly under the big pōhutukawa and other old trees
- Front paths, steps and picket fences
- Shops in the village, with commercial building washes done around opening hours
Many streets are narrow, and parking can be tight in summer.
Devonport FAQ
My house is in a heritage area. Is washing OK? Washing is maintenance, so it doesn't change the house. Low pressure means it's gentle on old materials. If you're planning repairs or painting, check the rules with the council.
Can you clean a picket fence without stripping it? Yes. Painted pickets get a soft wash, and bare timber gets a light rinse.
